About the Award: This award recognizes LPS teachers or coordinators who have shown outstanding leadership qualities or have demonstrated the potential to become an outstanding educational leader.

Nominated By: Zoe Peterson and the 7th grade team at Schoo Middle School

Based on the criteria, why do you feel this person should be considered for the R.L. Fredstrom Leadership Award? Tanner is a solutions-based educator. He sees the positive in every situation and works to find outcomes that support both the student and the other teachers. Tanner’s ability to bring compassion to every aspect of his job inspires everyone to do the same. Even on the hardest days or moments, Tanner handles situations with grace and empathy. Tanner works hard for every student and parent. He makes it his mission to partner with families and do what’s best for students in every possible way.

What effect does the nominee’s outstanding leadership have on the quality of education for students? Tanner supports the overall well being of students and staff. He gets to know students outside of academics and is invested in helping them to become the best version of themselves. Tanner has a positive attitude that is infectious for those he works with every day. Tanner is collaborative in his work to support students. He communicates with teachers and parents effectively in order to best support student learning.

What professional growth opportunities is the nominee currently involved in? Tanner has been my collaborative mentor and provided me several opportunities learn demonstrate leadership at my school Tanner was our schools MTSS Coordinator and led our building through PD during the previous school year and jump-started our committee work. Tanner worked hard as the leader of the PE/health department to make sure the department worked together as a cohesive unit and with others in the building when location wise that can be a hard task to complete. Tanner never misses a chance to tell us what is going well in our classrooms. The feedback is appreciated and helps us feel like we are making a difference.
