Since 2011, students at Scott Middle School have had an opportunity to make a difference in their community. As sixth graders, students are asked to research something they see as an issue or a problem, and to come up with a solution to that problem. They are encouraged to find resources to help solve the problem, relating to non-profits in the area.
Students create a presentation which is featured at a fair - much like a science fair- and thousands of people come and donate at this event. Funds are then distributed to the featured non-profits. Over $46,000 has been raised since 2011. Since this starts in sixth grade, students continue to foster a spirit of giving throughout their time at Scott.
Wendy Van, the President of the Foundation for LPS, nominated Scott Middle School for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy, and they won this prestigious honor, which was awarded on National Philanthropy Day, November 10, 2016. Congratulations to educators and students who #InspirePossibilities at Scott Middle School!
