Kelsey Lorimer named 2019 Nancy Muehlhausen Counseling Award winner

Lincoln, Nebraska – Lincoln Southeast High School counselor Kelsey Lorimer was awarded the Nancy Muehlhausen Counseling Award by the Foundation for Lincoln Public Schools on February 12, 2019 surrounded by her family and colleagues.

Lorimer, in her fourth year at LSE, was recognized for her commitment to students and dedication as a counselor. Her nomination included letters of recommendation from a former student, the parent of a former student and a colleague.

“It’s hard to put into words the impact Lorimer has had on my daughter,” wrote the parent of a former student.

“[Lorimer] saw something in my daughter and worked with her to develop her leadership skills while providing her with a safe, non-judgmental place to be herself,” she wrote.

Lorimer’s counseling colleague Kelley L.P. Winter also wrote of Lorimer’s commitment to students.

“Students feel comfortable working with her … she creates an atmosphere that is accepting and inviting,” Winter wrote.

“[Lorimer] is committed to helping students and fostering genuine, trusting relationships,” she wrote.

The Nancy Muehlhausen Counseling Award was established in 2006 to honor Nancy Muehlhausen, a former Lincoln Public Schools employee who worked as a school counselor for 29 years.
