ALEKS Math Course
The ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) online math program uses artificial intelligence and adaptive questioning to pretest the material covered in a given course; then it provides instruction only on those portions of the course in which the student has not already demonstrated mastery, starting with the portions that the student is most likely to be ready to learn. Periodic quizzes enable the program to ensure that the student is retaining the content. The ALEKS courses are quite closely linked to our math objectives. A wide range of math courses are available, and it is quite motivational in the way it presents and covers the material. Many of our most promising students find it difficult to wait for others to catch up before they are able to learn new material; the ALEKS program would remove this waiting time, thereby enabling students to move at their own pace. Likewise, students who find difficulties in math have also embraced ALEKS, as it affords students multiple opportunities to practice a concept before moving on.
