Undaunted Courage
During the fall of the 2004 school year I would like to purchase 35 copies of the novel, "Undaunted Courage" by Stephen Ambrose to use with my Students. This would allow students to connect English with the Social Studies curriculum and prepare for an upcoming field trip to Fort Atkinson where the focus will be on the journey of Lewis and Clark. This book, which is written directly from the diaries of Lewis and Clark brings to life the early American frontier like no other. The trials, tribulations, successes, failures, events and conversations are reported by the participants. The fact that much of the journey occurs in Nebraska and relates to several Native American civilizations currently in our state, adds to our student's understanding of their Nebraska Heritage. It also contains biographies of both men, another genre of literature. As a result of reading this book students will creating original artifacts representing their reading. The timing of this request also coincides with the National Celebration.
