One Book-One Family Book Club

As a follow-up to the city's One Book-One Lincoln program, the Lena Merrill Community Learning Center at Saratoga School, in partnership with Lee Booksellers, Runza Restaurants, and the Optimists Club, is sponsoring a family literacy book club called One Book-One Family. The club meets one evening per month at Saratoga Elementary School. Saratoga and Irving families are invited to enjoy a meal provided by Runza (one month) and the Optimists Club (the next month), followed by a book discussion of the books read by families during the month. Golden Sower and other popular books will be selected for each of the three groups (K-2, 3-4, 5-8) to read. The books will be discussed at the monthly meetings, and then the books for the next month will be distributed. Families may keep the books they read. This policy places books into the hands and homes of children who might not otherwise have such exposure to literature. Families who choose to read additional books during the month will be able to enter their names in a drawing to be held at the end of each semester. The winner will be given gift certificates for children's books at Lee Booksellers. There is no cost to participants for this program. One Book-One Family encourages family reading time and family literacy, and provides an enriching environment in which to promote that.
